Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park, Moate, Co. Westmeath is an exciting new park which contains one of the few turloughs east of the River Shannon. Turloughs are vanishing wetlands unique to Ireland and a perfect place to learn about the cycle of life.
Our workshop affords schools the opportunity to learn about the geology of this phenomenon and to observe, explore and investigate the flora and fauna of this precious habitat. Hands-on activities include pond-dipping, using microscopes, designing and making, and a little bit of chemistry! The workshop has been designed with input from primary teachers and ecologists to be curriculum relevant, and it incorporates a variety of scientific and mathematical topics and skills, in a fun and interactive way. On completion of the workshop, participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park also offers a Heritage Trail, Orienteering, “Scéal”- The History of Irish Music, Art in the Park Gardens and an outdoor Playground and Amenity Area. Located in the heart of Ireland, just minutes from the M6 Motorway, the Park is an ideal venue for school Tours.
