The European Communities (Access to Information on the Environment) Regulations 2007 (S.I. 133 of 2007), gives legal rights to those seeking access to information on the environment from public authorities.

These Regulations came into effect on 1st May 2007, repealing the previous legislative instrument, the European Communities (Access to Information on the Environment) Regulations 1998.  S.I. 662 of 2011, S.I. 615 of 2014 and S.I. 309 of 2018 revised these regulations further. 

You have the right have the right to obtain environmental information from Science Foundation Ireland under these regulations.

To make a request, we ask that you submit your request by email to info@sfi.ie or in writing to the AIE Officer, Science Foundation Ireland, Three Park Place, Dublin 2.

In your request, we ask that you:

  • Specify that you are making your request under the AIE Regulations and clearly state the environmental information that you are requesting;
  • Please try to provide as much detail as possible to enable us to process your request efficiently; and
  • Your contact details

You will receive your response within one month from the date on which the request is received by Science Foundation Ireland.

Should charges be necessary to process your request, a member of staff from Science Foundation Ireland will contact you to advise of charges before proceeding.
