Some Highlights from Science Week 2017

More than 1180 events took place across the country for Science Week 2017, which ran from 12-19 November.

There were 12 regional science festivals which took place in Cavan/Monaghan, Cork, Carlow, Festival of Farming and Food (Teagasc), Galway, Kerry, Limerick, Mayo, the Midlands, Sligo, Southeast, Tipperary.

A number of funded Science Week events were held throughout the week, including events by the Ark Theatre, The British Council of Ireland, Dublinia, Dunsink Observatory, Foodoppi, Learn it Educational Solutions, the Science Gallery, ADAPT, The Rediscovery Centre, Rokit Entertainment and Wexford Co. Council.

Science Week was launched by Ireland’s king of comedy at the Scintillating Science event with Dara O’Briain and the Dublin Science Week Family Open Day at the Convention Centre Dublin successfully brought an end to the week of festivities.

There was significant coverage of Science Week across print media, online media, social media, radio and television. A media partnership with RTÉ involved a dedicated Science Week page on the RTÉ website, social media promotion and the screening of Science Week promos, ‘Feats of Modest Valour’ documentary, ‘Will a Robot Steal my Job?’ documentary, Weather Live, Science Week features on the weather forecasts, children’s science programming including ‘Brain Freeze’ and ‘Wonder What’ and more.
