Cancer affects everyone, whether it be ourselves, a family member or a friend. Join Vincent Devine, the artist who painted the Vicky Phelan Triptych Portrait, in conversation with cancer researchers from UCD and patient partners on his latest piece ‘The Vitruvian: Uncovering the Layers of Cancer’.

Since November 2022, Devine has been working with UCD cancer researchers and a patient partner to explore how cancer affects patients and their families: from molecules to cells; tissues to impacts on the whole human body; personal impact to societal impact. The core art piece depicts this journey through the body, incorporating visual scientific imagery alongside the human experience of cancer.

The Vitruvian: Uncovering the Layers of Cancer, alongside new linked derivative pieces, will be on display in Dublin and Offaly during Science Week 2023. Devine will walk us through the visual imagery of the pieces, while researchers and patient partners will talk about the role they played in the creation of this work and the future they envision for cancer patients.
