For Science Week 2024, The Ark will encourage children aged 5 -12 years and their families to explore
the weird and wonderful world of ‘creepy crawlies’ with wildlife expert Éanna Ní Lamhna and artist and
illustrator Duffy Mooney Sheppard in a fascinating science-art workshop.

This creative workshop will challenge children’s attitudes and preconceptions about the characteristics,
appearance and habits of the incredible inspects we share our World with. Through closer observation,
discovery, drawing and fun facts, this workshop aims to stimulate curiosity, ignite a passion for science
and a better understanding of the world, including the everyday creepy crawlies we encounter.

"In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will only love what we understand; and we will only
understand what we are taught"
-Baba Dioum, 1968

Éanna will lead a discussion about the usual and surprising characteristics of different invertebrates
from buzzing bluebottles with taste buds on their legs to spindly spiders eating one another and slugs
and snails that are both male and female! Then guided by Duffy, children will enjoy a series of creative
drawing responses as they look at these creepy crawlies in a new light!
