Expression of Interest for Science Week 2021 - Science Show Creatives
Closing Date for Queries: 12 noon, 14 July 2021
Closing Date for Submission of Quotes: 12 noon, 19 July 2021
One of the major initiatives of Science Foundation Ireland is the organisation and coordination of Science Week in November each year. Science Week 2021 will take place from 7 to 14 November. Following the success of moving the festival online in 2020, Science Week will continue to grow its digital offering in 2021 and beyond.
Science Week 2021 Underlying Theme
The theme for 2021 will be Science Week – Creating Our Future, directly supporting the national research conversation. ‘Creating Our Future' is a conversation with between the people of Ireland, to gather your ideas on what problems you'd like research and innovation to deal with, to create a better future for all. This conversation will talk about what is already happening but, crucially, it will ask what research questions and challenges are most important to the Irish public. Creatives are encouraged to consider how to include this as part of their submission. More information can be found on CreatingOurFuture.ie.
Following the success of the digital shows in 2020 and feedback from participants Science Foundation Ireland are looking to continue to deliver Science Shows digitally in 2021. Science Foundation Ireland seeks expressions of interest for shows that will entertain and educate Primary and Secondary school audiences and also would be suitable for a general family audience. We are keen to receive novel and engaging expressions of interest and for this to be a collaborative process. Science Foundation Ireland can work with you to adapt the show for digital delivery and/or pair the creator with a STEM contributor as needed. Each show will be pre-recorded, be 30-40 minutes in length and made available for audiences to watch online throughout the duration of Science Week 2021 and beyond. We are keen that each show will be accessible to everyone so that any activities can be adapted for replicating in a classroom or at home, i.e. shows will not require a specific kit or costly materials.
In addition to the Science Shows, Science Foundation Ireland will also host a live programme each day. Part of this will be a live in-studio bitesize (10-minutes max) feature of the pre-recorded show. This will be filmed live in Dublin during w/c 8 November.
The successful Science Shows will be recorded in Dublin between September and October. Science Foundation Ireland will lead on and provide the video capture of the shows, working with a video production company.
Science Foundation Ireland has identified five key themes which the shows will explore. The themes are broad and SFI invite applicants to think creatively about these themes and how they can incorporate in the show. The show can be based on something you have done before but would ask that it is adapted to our themes.
