In Brief
- Challenge: Future Digital Challenge
- Challenge Type: National Challenge Fund
- Status: Active
The Challenge
Public transport is a critical component in developing a sustainable city. As Ireland shows remarkable recoveries from the pandemic, the nation's public transportation system is still feeling the lingering effects of its disruption. With commuting patterns inching close to (and in the case of bus journeys exceeding) pre-pandemic levels, transport providers are wrestling to secure enough resources to deliver services at full capacity. Coupled with external factors such as congestion, the reliability of public transport is becoming a key issue in deteriorating confidence in commuters' needs.
The Solution
Powered by disruptive digital technologies, a data-driven solution will be developed in partnership with stakeholders in the public transport sector to improve accuracy of the real-time information system, allowing commuters to regain confidence and control of their travel. Decision-support tools will be created to assist service providers in allocating available resources, both reactively and proactively, to reliably meet passenger needs in case of disruptions.
