The SFI Centre for Research Training in Foundations of Data Science will train a cohort of PhD students with world-class foundational understanding in the horizontal themes of Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Machine Learning. These fundamental themes will be fused together by applying them to real-world challenges in vertical themes including Data Analytics, Privacy and Security, Smart Manufacturing, Networks, and Health and Wellbeing. PhD students trained in this Centre for Research Training will gain a fundamental understanding that will make them uniquely adaptable to the rapidly-evolving needs of Ireland’s data science industry. Students will engage with industries developing an understanding of their needs, gaining transversal skills and an appreciation for true impact in the process.

“This Centre will place Ireland at the nexus of this dynamic and competitive field and will facilitate the attraction of data-centric indigenous and international enterprise to Ireland. The graduates of this Centre will be uniquely adaptable to the rapidly-evolving needs of Ireland’s data science industry and will become global leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs and employers."
