Castlecomer Discovery Park
Castlecomer Discovery Park runs a Primary School Science Day based around our interactive multimedia 'Footprints in Coal' exhibition. The children will be transported back in time over 300 million years to find out how the coal first formed and to see some of the earliest plants and animals to colonise the Earth. Coming forward to the present the children will explore their present-day natural surroundings through the use of pooters, nets, games and scavenger hunts.
A Discover Centre for almost 10 years, Castlecomer Discovery Park in Co. Kilkenny is the ideal location for school trips. Set in an 80 acre woodland with beautiful lakes and river, this non-profit, social-community enterprise caters for groups of all sizes 10-150 students. The DPSM accredited activities are perfect for schools completing the Awards of Science and Maths Excellence as all are linked to the SESE curriculum. These include Nature Trails, Woodland and Water Invertebrate Collections, Maths Trail and Footprints in Coal Exhibition and are available September to April (3 activities, just €10).
In May & June, these activities take on a more fun element as they are among the most popular Primary School Tour choices. Combine with exciting adventure activities to create a memorable day out for your class. Adventure activities include Tree-Top Adventure Walk, Climbing Wall, Leap of Faith, Boating, Team Challenge Games, Junior Woodland Adventure Walk and Orienteering.
