As a centre of historical importance since ancient times and an area of natural beauty Ardagh has a lot to offer primary school children. We provide active, integrated learning experiences in various areas of the curriculum including SESE (science, history and geography), SPHE, English or Irish, Maths, Drama and all strands of the Visual Arts, based on the collection and environment of Ardagh Heritage and Creativity Centre.

Our Discover Primary Science and Maths programmes integrate science and maths with construction, fabric and fibre and paint and colour.

We currently offer two programmes: Woodland Creations and Exploring Colour.

Woodland Creations

Take a nature walk with us in the Neighbourhood Park and discover some of the common trees, plants and other living things. Seasonal scavenger hunts are available.

Collect leaves, twigs and other small found objects to create your own artwork with. This workshop is most suitable for infants to 2nd class, but can be adapted for senior classes. SESE Science, Strand: Living Things, Strand Unit: Plants and Animals.

Exploring Colour

The unique properties of light and colour are explored in this workshop. Experiment with prisms to create a rainbow, mix the primary colours of light to create coloured shadows and learn about the different primary colours of paint by mixing greens, purples and all the colours of the rainbow.

This workshop is most suited to 3rd to 6th classes but can be adapted for younger students. SESE Science, Strand: Energy and Forces, Strand Unit: Light.

DPSM workshop

Explore the woods, identify trees, insects, plants and animal homes and create a piece of art with natural objects, clay or paint. You can see one of these workshops here.

All our DSPM workshops are available for bookings from schools and groups Monday to Friday. €5 per person for groups more than 10 or €6 per person for groups of less than 10. Each workshop lasts for one and a half hours.
