Working with Enterprise
SFI strongly encourages research collaboration between SFI funded scientists & engineers and industry. Such interactions can lead to SFI scientists & engineers becoming more informed about industrial priorities and research needs; and lead to industrial collaborators being informed about important new science and engineering research developments in Ireland. Currently, over 30% of SFI funded researchers have established collaborations with industry. 2009 saw a dramatic increase in collaborative research with a 53% increase in the number of small-medium enterprises (SME) collaborating with SFI funded researchers (compared to 2008).
Industry-academic collaborations are also contributing to the Industrial Development Authority’s (IDA) profile shift towards RD&I investments, from less than 10% 5 years ago to almost 50% in 2009.
