The “US-Ireland R&D Partnership” links scientists and engineers in partnerships across academia and industry to address crucial research questions; fosters new and existing industrial research activity that could make an important contribution to the respective economies: and expands educational and research career opportunities in science & engineering. SFI Conferences and Workshops

Support for international meetings held in Ireland for intensive inquiry and collaboration on topics of timely scientific importance. Awards range from €500 to €50,000. SFI Short Term Fellowship Supplement

Supplement designed to enable team members in an SFI funded group to collaborate on research projects in laboratories (academic or industrial) outside the Republic of Ireland for a period of up to 3 calendar months. SFI International Research Partnership Supplement

SFI's International Research Partnership (IRP) Supplement encourages collaboration between researchers in Ireland and foreign countries. The emphasis here is to support talented visionary scientists in a bilateral exchange program to the mutual benefit of Ireland and the participating country.

SFI North-South Research Partnership Supplement

As part of its overall remit to encourage both national and international collaboration, and specifically in the context of North-South initiatives in science and technology, SFI strongly encourages research collaboration between SFI funded researchers and researchers in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Northern Ireland. SFI E.T.S Walton Visitor Awards

SFI’s E.T.S. Walton Visitor Awards programme enables highly qualified academic and industrial researchers resident outside Ireland to carry out research projects of their own choice in Ireland.  Click here for information on applying for the E.T.S Walton Visitor Award.

EU Framework Programme

In addition to SFI funding programmes, the EU Framework Programme offers Irish-based researchers the opportunities to receive joint funding with international partners.  Participation must include European partners but is open to countries outside the EU (“Third Countries” or “Associated Countries”, that have signed up to participate in Framework, as long as the quote for European participants is met.  Further information is available here.
