Innovation Ireland hosts Science Colloquium in Berlin towards building stronger scientific partnerships

Representatives from Innovation Ireland (Science Foundation Ireland, Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland) attended a full-day event in Berlin on 25 April 2012 to promote greater partnerships between Ireland and Germany in the area of research and development and to celebrate Dublin as a City of Science for 2012. Dublin has been designated a City of Science to celebrate the prestigious honour of Dublin hosting Europe’s largest science conference, ESOF 2012 (Euroscience Open Forum), from 11-15 July this year.
The event, based on the theme of Smart Cities and Homes of the Future, was hosted by the Embassy of Ireland, Berlin and the Technische Universität (TU), Berlin in partnership with Science Foundation Ireland and the Office of the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Irish Government.
Along with Dan Mulhall, the Irish Ambassador to Germany, and Professor Dr.-Ing. Jörg Steinbach, President of the TU Berlin, speakers in Berlin included Dr Ruth Freeman, Director of Enterprise and International Affairs at Science Foundation Ireland and Dr Lisa Amini, Director of IBM Research Ireland. The event was attended by academics and business leaders keen to learn about and develop links between Ireland and Germany.

Business Breakfast in honour of The Right Honourable, Mr William Hague, M.P., Secretary of State for Foreign & Commonwealth Affairs (May 2011)

Pictured with An Tanaiste Eamon Gilmore and Mr William Hague were senior representatives of IDA Ireland, Enterprise Ireland and Science Foundation Ireland along with members of the business community.
On 18 May 2011 300 business people came together to attend an Irish-British Business Breakfast which was held in honour of the Right Honourable, Mr William Hague, M.P., Secretary of State for Foreign & Commonwealth Affairs who accompanied Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth on her state visit to Ireland. The event was held at O’Reilly Hall, University College Dublin.
President McAleese Visit to Barcelona, Spain (March 2011)

Pictured at the Enterprise Ireland workshop in Barcelona with President and Dr McAleese were senior members of SFI, Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland staff.
As part of her visit to Barcelona, Spain in March 2011 President Mary McAleese opened an Enterprise Ireland conference and workshop which was organised for client companies targeting the Spanish pharmaceutical market. The programme included a number of short presentations, followed by one-to-one meetings. Dr Ruth Freeman, SFI Director, Enterprise and International Affairs made a presentation entitled Research for the Pharmaceutical Industry at the event.

Finnish Prime Minister’s Visit to Ireland (October 2010)

SFI participated in the organisation of joint Irish-Finnish event, which was held during the Finnish Prime Minister’s visit to Ireland (7th October) entitled “Overcoming Recession through Innovation: Combining Irish & Finnish Strengths.” The event was being organised by DETI, the Embassy of Finland, Finpro, Enterprise Ireland, IDA Ireland & SFI.

President McAleese Visit to Russia (September 2010)
The President of Ireland, Mary McAleese, undertook a state visit to Russia at the beginning of September 2010. On the occasion of this official state visit, and as part of President McAleese’s programme SFI, arranged a seminar on the 8th September in Moscow to showcase Irish research.
This event provided an opportunity to build links between Irish and Russian researchers and focussed in the area of nanotechnology. SFI was hosted in Moscow by RUSNANO: the Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies. RUSNANO was established to advance Russia into the pool of the world’s leaders in the field of nanotechnologies.
A number of SFI researchers in the field of nanotechnology were also in attendance.
