Second Grant Policy
Second Grant Policy
Note: In the following information the term 'PI' applies to all
individuals named as PIs or Co-PIs on an SFI Principal Investigator
Award
- All Science Foundation Ireland PIs may apply for a second grant,
before the expiry of their current grant.
- If the PI intends to use the new grant to manage the transition from the
current SFI grant (in particular in order to retain key team members),
the PI may request a start date coincident with the end of the current
grant.
Further details:
- Any postponement of the start date must be clearly flagged for the
reviewers.
It is important that the reviewers have an opportunity to
comment appropriately on the likely state-of-the-art nature of the proposal at
the time of the proposed start date and make their funding recommendation
accordingly.
- The PI must have demonstrated satisfactory progress on their current
grant (incl. appropriate budget management) as determined by SFI
through analysis of annual reports and/or site reviews.
- As with all SFI funding decisions, the Foundation reserves the right
to decline proposals based on budget constraints and/or portfolio management
issues. In the case of second grant applications, SFI may determine
that further investments are best reserved for different thematic areas, or for
currently unfunded PIs, where the Foundation believes the impact on BioT/ICT
and/or value to Ireland is likely to be greater.
- Before applying, the PI should contact the appropriate SFI
Directorate for advice on the eligibility of their second grant
application and related issues.
- All SFI’s normal review criteria, standards of excellence &
program eligibility criteria still hold.
