Joint SFI / Johnson and Johnson Services Inc (JJSI) - Healthcare Innovation Award Programme FAQs
1. Does the Healthcare Innovation Programme Award constitute an extension to my existing SFI award?
No, the Healthcare Innovation Programme Award is not equivalent to a No Cost Extension. However, the Healthcare Innovation Programme Award may extend beyond the term of the current SFI award.
2. How many Healthcare Innovation Programme Awards can I apply for?
Applicants can apply for ONLY one Healthcare Innovation Programme Award. Only one application per SFI award and one application per SFI award holder is allowed.
3. Who can apply for a Healthcare Innovation Programme Award?
Only current SFI award holders of the following awards can apply to the HIPA programme: PI, PICA, RFP, Research Professor, STOKES, PIYRA, USIreland (excluding USIreland planning grant holders), SRC or CSET.
4. Who actually submits the application?
The Research Office of the eligible institution submits the application. The application cover sheet must be signed by the applicant, SFI award holder and signed and stamped by the Irish Research body.
5. I am a Stokes lecturer / professor, can I apply for a Healthcare Innovation Programme Award?
Yes. Stokes Lecturers and Professors are eligible.
6. Are Labs with current collaborations with J&J eligible to apply?
Yes.
7. Are employees/post-doctoral researchers in CSETs eligible to apply as applicants?
No. Applicants must be an SFI award holder named on the letter of offer.
8. What is the allowable stipend for an MSc student?
The allowable stipend in €18,000 plus €5,500 fees.
9. How many grants will be awarded?
This is dependent on the budgets sought in applications and the programme budget available.
10. Where can I get access to a list of JJSI initiatives?
It is important to state that identifying disruptive technologies in the area of immune-modulated inflammatory disease is a key JJSI initiative. Further information can be found on the COSAT and ATRM
11. Does a co-applicant have to currently be funded by one of these SFI awards mentioned if the main applicant is funded?
Yes, the co-applicant must have under gone the peer review process.
12. Does applying for an award impact upon the TIDA eligibility?
No, it doesn’t affect TIDA eligibility.
13. Is it possible to submit more that one application concurrently?
No.
14. Would it be possible to get some clarification on the confidentiality of applications to the HIPA?
There is an NDA signed by SFI and J&J which will ensure that all HIPA proposals will remain confidential at the review stage.
15. Under the Joint SFI / Johnson and Johnson Services Inc (JJSI) Programme must collaborators be currently SFI funded and/or be based in an Irish HEI?
Collaborators are not required to be SFI funded Investigators and can be from a foreign institution.
