SFI North-South Research Partnership Supplement - Call Closed

As part of its overall remit to encourage both national and international collaboration, and specifically in the context of North-South initiatives in science and technology, SFI strongly encourages research collaboration between SFI funded researchers and researchers in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Northern Ireland. To facilitate such collaborations, SFI will accept applications from existing SFI award holders (under the PI, Research Professor, PIYRA, PICA, CSET & SRC Programmes) for supplementary awards to fund collaborative projects with researchers in HEI’s in Northern Ireland. These projects should be directly related to, and enhance, existing SFI peer-reviewed programmes.

SFI’s supplementary contribution to the collaborative project can be up to 20% of the remaining direct costs of the original award, distributed annually on a pro rata basis (i.e. the supplemental in-year spend must not exceed 20% of the annual budget allocation for that year). Supplements will typically be less than €50K per annum, with awards of greater value granted only in exceptional circumstances.

The North-South Research Partnership Supplementary Awards are evaluated on the basis of the:

  • Quality of the proposed project
  • Strategic impact of the partnership on the island of Ireland
  • Progress to date on the relevant SFI award
