WeCreate is a unique technology and creative workspace located in the Cloughjordan Ecovillage.
Our Fab Lab provides access to a wide range of digital fabrication tools. Digital fabrication allows pupils to investigate a range of themes in the SESE / Science and Maths curriculum using leading edge technology that is not widely available. Visiting DPSM schools participate in interactive activities and hands-on projects.
Our workshops encourage pupils to use their imagination and creativity to explore scientific and environmental subjects.
The children will be developing the skills of working scientifically and designing and making throughout the activities. With workshops suitable for 7 to 12 year olds, participants explore 3D printing, lasers, electronics, renewable energy and other curriculum related themes, in an exciting and different learning environment.
WeCreate is starting work on a very interesting summer project using Arduino and Raspberry Pi! We are developing an open-source sensor mesh network that can collect climate and weather data.
We are also preparing an arts and tech programme for a Girl Guide’s summer camp later in the summer.
Cloncannon Biofarm offers students from the opportunity to recognise ‘Science and Maths all around me’ on the Organic farm. The landform (Geography) features of mountain, rivers and hedgerows have links to the Science and Maths curriculum in Shape, Time, Formation, Change, Living Things and Interconnectivity. History (landscape and human) is evident in the ring fort, old creamery, old stone cottage and vintage machinery. The mathematics of change over time and the science of technological development is available to the student as they explore.
The Science and Maths of relationships and interdependence of living things in the various habitats can be gauged by the students as they use the senses to investigate connections. The organic garden also provides an excellent setting for further use of Maths and Science in growing healthy local food. An adventure in the natural surroundings of Cloncannon Biofarm stimulates many facets of understanding for the curious students. It will offer a new perspective on Maths and Science.
