UREKA Sites 2009 UREKA Site Awards support active undergraduate research participation for a period of 10-12 weeks in the summer in the laboratories of clustered researchers from Irish 3rd level institutions. Each supported site has a focused research theme, and engages 10-16 undergraduate student researchers each year, over a period of three years award duration. Awards typically range between 60,000 and 110,000 per year.
UREKA Site International Exchange Programme The UREKA Site International Exchange Programme formalises exchange programmes between a currently funded UREKA Site and a similar international programme (eg. REU Sites in the US), having a complementary research focus. Awards support reciprocal exchange of up to two Irish students to the partner site. Awards cover additional student travel and visa costs for Irish students abroad, additional funds to ensure scholarship stipend equivalence, and the Irish lead applicant travel costs to initially establish the exchange. International Exchange Awards can run until term of the original Site award.
Research Professor Recruitment Awards The Research Professor Recruitment Awards aims to attract to Ireland outstanding researchers, with particularly distinguished international reputations, awards normally ranging up to 500,000 per annum for up to two years.
Nanosci-E+: Transnational Call for Collaborative Proposals in Nanoscience The European Commission, in line with its commitment to enhance funding coordination within the European Research Area (ERA), has agreed to fund a Transnational Call for Collaborative Proposals in Nanoscience under the ERANET+ programme. Nanosci-E+, the body created specifically to implement this Call, is a consortium of 18 national research agencies from 13 countries in the ERA, whose objective is the coordination of national policies in fundamental research at the nanometric scale. The countries involved are: Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of Ireland, Slovakia, Spain and the United Kingdom.
STARs: Secondary Teacher Assistant Researchers Award The SFI STARs programme aims to engage teachers interest in science as researchers, to develop connections between second and third level education institutions and to disseminate new skills and knowledge which can be passed on to pupils. The projects run for up to 8 weeks during the summer school holidays, in the laboratories of SFI funded Investigators. Teachers receive a stipend equivalent of up to 8 weeks salary for their participation in the programme.
