Dr Ryan joined SFI in December 2008 as Scientific Programme Manager from his previous position as Research & Development Manager at NTERA Ltd.

Dr Ryan received a BSc from University College Dublin in 1993 and a Chemistry degree (Hons) from the Royal Society of Chemistry in 1994. In 1998 he completed a PhD from University College Dublin where he designed and characterised a biosensor to selectively detect brain glutamate.

Following his position as a  postdoctoral researcher in nanostructured thin films with the School of Nanochemistry (University College Dublin) he joined NTERA Ltd., a university spinout company, as Senior Scientist where he developed numerous electrolytic and electrochromic systems for electronic display applications.

Dr Ryan comes to SFI with a broad understanding of nanomaterial chemistry, including transparent conducting oxides, and printed electronics. He has significant experience in process and technology transfer having coordinated the setup of manufacturing facilities in Asia and the US.

For a number of years he has led a highly-skilled international team of Scientists and Engineers. He has several scientific publications and is co-inventor on a number of patents.

He has been instrumental in securing significant funding over the past number of years.
