Dr Aisling McEvoy graduated from University College Dublin with a BSc (Hons) in Experimental Physics, and received her PhD degree in Applied Physics in the area of optical sensors from Dublin City University. She then joined Intel Ireland where she worked as a Senior Process Engineer on various cost reduction and yield improvement projects, before returning to R&D as a postdoctoral researcher in the National Centre for Sensor Research (NCSR) after the establishment of the centre in 1999.

Dr McEvoy was instrumental in securing and successfully completing many industrially- and nationally-funded projects. As an inventor, she was a member of a NCSR/Growcorp VC team involved in the establishment of a spin-off company, Gas Sensor Solutions, to commercialise a NCSR technology. From 2001, she was research manager of the Optical Sensors Laboratory which involved the supervision and mentoring of postgraduates/postdoctoral researchers, project and people management and securing funding from national, EU and industrial sources, as well as day-to-day group management.

Dr McEvoy’s research interests include optical chemical and biochemical sensor technology, sensor platform development and fabrication, optoelectronic instrumentation, semiconductor technology, with which she brings significant expertise in technology transfer.

Dr McEvoy joined SFI as a Scientific Programme Manager in October 2006.
